About Us
RIOS Canine Institute is a veteran-owned Chandler business built around clear communication, practical structure, and plans that can change when the dog gives us new information.
Family dogs, rescue dogs, puppies, and high-drive working breeds do not need identical programs. We teach the dog in front of us and coach the handler who will carry the work into everyday life.
Rogue Intelligence is led by Thomas Slavik, a U.S. Navy veteran who has spent years building and running professional training and boarding operations in Arizona — writing the training programs, training the trainers, and running daily operations. That experience is what shapes how we work: individualized plans, honest assessments, and handler coaching that holds up after the dog goes home.
RI CLEAR Method
Training That Changes With the Dog
Behavior is information, not character. We Check health, history, safety, and goals; Look at the dog's body language and environment; Explain the likely function of the behavior; Arrange the setup and Teach the next useful skill; then Review real results before advancing.
Reliability depends on four connected factors: understanding, fluency, generalization, and regulation. We control duration, distance, distraction, and context, usually changing one at a time. The dog advances after repeated success without a meaningful increase in stress—not because a calendar says it is time.
We teach six days each week and use Sunday for rest, recovery, and observation. Owners learn the same setup, timing, safety rules, and success checks so progress can transfer home.

How much does professional dog training cost in Chandler/Tempe?
Cost depends on the training category, the dog's starting point, the safety and handling requirements, and who will perform the daily repetitions. Call us first; we will understand the work before recommending a format or quoting it.
Is board and train better than private lessons?
It depends on the dog, the goal, the home, and how involved you can be day to day. Board & Train provides concentrated professional practice, but the result still has to transfer to the owner. Private lessons keep you hands-on from the beginning. We recommend the format after evaluating the full picture.
What will I receive while my dog is in Board & Train?
Approved daily updates explain what your dog worked on and why it matters. Your portal also gives you practical at-home homework so your handling skills develop before pickup, plus a lasting update history you can revisit.
Can I get the same training without sending my dog away?
Many goals can be pursued through owner-led lessons, a hybrid plan, or Board & Train, but the responsibilities and timelines are not identical. Lesson clients carry the daily implementation; Board & Train concentrates that work with us before handler transfer. No format guarantees a specific behavior result.
Do you train service dogs and protection dogs?
We evaluate service-dog foundation work and family-protection or security K9 goals separately. Both require suitability screening and honest checkpoints. We do not promise service-dog certification, universal public access, protection capability, or a fixed result before evaluating the dog and handler.
At what age should I start training my puppy?
Training begins the moment you bring your puppy home. At 8-16 weeks, the focus should be on critical socialization, environmental exposure, marker training, and foundational engagement through play and food. Formal obedience and tool conditioning typically begin around 5-6 months of age, depending on the dog's maturity. Early intervention prevents major behavioral issues later in life.
