Frequently asked questions

Is this detection-dog certification?
No. This program begins with sport, enrichment, and tracking foundations. Professional detection work requires a separately scoped operational program and assessment.
Does my dog need obedience training first?
It is built as an outlet after obedience, and that order is deliberate. Scent work asks a dog to work independently at distance, which goes better when the handler already has reliable communication to fall back on. Tell us where your dog is and we will say whether to start here or earlier.
What kind of dog is scent work good for?
It works because it uses the sense every dog is strongest in, so it is not limited to working breeds. It is particularly useful for high-drive dogs that need structured mental work, and for dogs whose confidence needs building, because the dog gets to be right, repeatedly, on its own terms.
Can we practice between sessions?
Yes, and that is part of the design. You get a safe introductory progression plus clear home practice to run between coached sessions, so it becomes a skill you keep rather than a class you attend.
How is this scheduled?
Through lessons, workshops, and continuing training rather than one fixed block, so it can stay an ongoing outlet instead of finishing. Current options change with demand and staffing, so reach out for what is running now.
