Questions & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our training methods, programs, and what to expect.
Cost and payment
How much does professional dog training cost in Chandler/Tempe?
The price depends on the training category, the dog's starting point, the handling and safety requirements, and whether lessons, hybrid training, or Board & Train is responsible. Call 520-839-5124 so we can understand the work before quoting it.
Can I pay for training in installments?
Payment options may be available for qualifying training scopes. We explain the schedule and full terms after the dog, category, format, and timeline have been evaluated.
What is your refund and cancellation policy?
If you cancel more than 7 days before your start date, we refund everything you paid. Inside 7 days, we keep a 25% booking fee since that seat was already held for your dog. Once your program has started, we refund the fair value of sessions not yet delivered, less that 25% fee — sessions already used or no-showed on short notice aren't refunded. If we determine your dog isn't a fit to finish a Board & Train, you only owe the boarding fee for nights already used, not the rest of the program. Full terms are in the training agreement you sign before booking.
Is your training agreement legally sound?
Yes. Our client training agreement has been reviewed and approved for use with every program we run. You'll read and accept it before training starts, and a copy is always available in your client portal.
Choosing a program
Is board and train better than private lessons?
It depends on the dog, the goal, and how much daily implementation you can reliably provide. Board & Train gives the trainer concentrated responsibility for the professional training phase. Private Lessons give you instruction, feedback, and homework, but you are responsible for carrying out the training correctly and consistently; they therefore do not carry the same service assurances as Board & Train. Hybrid divides the implementation between trainer intensives and owner practice. No format guarantees a specific behavior result.
At what age should I start training my puppy?
Training begins the moment you bring your puppy home. At 8-16 weeks, the focus should be on critical socialization, environmental exposure, marker training, and foundational engagement through play and food. Formal obedience and tool conditioning typically begin around 5-6 months of age, depending on the dog's maturity. Early intervention prevents major behavioral issues later in life.
Do you offer group classes?
Yes, alongside Board & Train and private lessons — we run group formats when demand, staffing, and the dogs are a responsible match. Call to ask what is currently running.
Is my dog a candidate for service dog training?
It depends on temperament, nerve strength, and trainability under real-world distraction — true public-access work is an extreme standard, not every dog is a fit. We run a dedicated Service Dog Public Access Prep program; reach out and describe your dog's background and we'll give you a straight answer on candidacy before committing.
How we train
Are e-collars safe for my dog?
Yes, when introduced correctly by an educated professional. We use E-Collar Technologies' medical-grade stimulation (similar to a TENS machine used in physical therapy) to communicate at very low levels—not to 'shock' or punish. We only add it once a dog already understands the behavior being asked of it: the goal is a dog that's reliable because it understands, not one that only responds after a button gets pressed. It's a layer of communication, not the whole plan, and not every program uses one.
Do you use positive reinforcement or balanced training?
We're not loyal to one training philosophy — we're loyal to what actually works for the dog in front of us. That means real, deliberate positive reinforcement (food, praise, play) to teach and shape new behavior, paired with fair, clear corrections to address dangerous or unwanted behavior once the dog fully understands what's expected. The goal is a dog that's reliable in the real world, not a dog trained to fit one method's label.
What results look like
How long does it take to fix reactivity or aggression?
Reactivity and aggression are complex emotional responses, not just simple disobedience. While you will often see significant improvement within the first 2-3 weeks of structured training, true rehabilitation is a lifestyle change that takes months of consistent management and counter-conditioning. We focus on teaching the dog a new state of mind (calmness and neutrality) rather than just suppressing the bad behavior.
Will my dog forget their training when they come home from board and train?
Dogs are highly contextual learners. If they return to the exact same environment with the exact same rules (or lack thereof), they will revert to their old behaviors. This is why our 'Owner Transfer' lessons are the most critical part of our program. We don't just train your dog; we train *you* on how to maintain the structure, use the tools, and hold your dog accountable so the training lasts a lifetime.
What happens if my dog's behavior regresses?
Training is an ongoing lifestyle, not a one-time fix. If you follow our management protocols and lifestyle recommendations but hit a roadblock, we are here to support you. We offer follow-up support, alumni group classes, and refresher sessions to help you troubleshoot and get back on track.
